Carla Muaze
(1962 – 1998)

Carla was born in Rio de Janeiro. She was an introspective, reserved child who liked to paint, work and dance. She loved jazz and for a time attended a dance school. As she was young and unmarried, she worked as a bank teller, in a boutique and at a music venue.
From 1990 on, she began to work at the painting studios at Casa do Engenho, at the Espaço Aberto ao Tempo (Space Open to Time, EAT), and at the Museum of Images from the Unconscious.
Frederico Morais considered her “a painter in the full sense of the word. Bold with form, colour, and above all, in the themes – reminiscent of Enzo Cucchi –, exuding sensuality and fantasy”.
